Governor Bob Ferguson signed <a style=\"color: #00a89e; text-decoration: underline!important;\" href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5284&amp;Chamber=Senate&amp;Year=2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SB 5284 law<\/a><em>(Recycling Reform Act<\/em>), marking a major turning point in the reform of the recycling system. From now on, the entire West Coast of the United States &#8211; California, Oregon and Washington &#8211; is covered by an EPR program for packaging.<\/p>\n<h3>Key dates and obligations to remember<\/h3>\n<p>Here are the essential milestones and deadlines for producers subject to the regulations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>January1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2026:<\/strong> a management body (OGD) must be appointed by the State.<\/li>\n<li><strong>July 1<sup>st,<\/sup> 2026:<\/strong> deadline for producers to join the OGD.<\/li>\n<li><strong>September 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2026:<\/strong> payment of the first annual registration fee to the State.<\/li>\n<li><strong>October 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2026:<\/strong> publication by OGD of a statewide collection list, specifying the covered materials to be declared.<\/li>\n<li><strong>December 31<sup>st<\/sup>, 2026:<\/strong> submission of the first needs assessment, which will be used to set program performance targets.<\/li>\n<li><strong> January 1<\/strong><strong><sup style=\"background-color: transparent;\">st<\/sup><\/strong><strong>, 2030:<\/strong> official start of the program &#8211; producers will have to comply fully from this date onwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What this means for your company<\/h2>\n<p>This law represents a significant change for brands, importers and manufacturers operating in the United States.
